| First Meeting of Maryland's Parent Advisory Council (M-PAC) to be Held November 19 at Cockeysville Middle School |

WHO: • Nancy S. Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools • Esther Parker, M-PAC Chair, President of Maryland PTA • Linda Hodge, President, National PTA • Soo Hong, Gordon M. Ambach Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Fellow, Harvard Graduate School of Education • Newly-appointed members of M-PAC
WHAT: Convene for the first in a two-year long series of meetings of the newly established Maryland’s Parent Advisory Council.
Dr. Grasmick will task M-PAC with a mission and official charge of duties, including its scope, timeline, and the importance of public input. Esther Parker will share her vision for the group and how this is a pivotal time for parent involvement in Maryland and nationally. Linda Hodge will give a briefing on the federal No Child Left Behind Act and specific parent involvement provisions. Soo Hong will provide a preliminary analysis of survey data on the state of parent involvement in Maryland.
A 30-minute public comment period will be held at the end of the meeting. Comment will be limited to no longer than three-minutes per person and must deal with either parent involvement in general or the individual parent home reports for the Maryland School Assessments that parents should have received by the end of October 2003.
